I got an old computer from my sister, and i tried going online and it says an intrenet cable is unplugged. I know where my wireless internet conniction box is but how do i plug in the internet cable...like what does it look like so i can find it and where do i put it and how do i get it to work? lol im on my downstairs computer but i wanna get the upstaris one to work too! Help please?Internet??????
so you want to connect wireless or ethernet cable? you probably want wireless since your PC is upstairs, so you need a USB wifi adapter on the PC if you don't already have 1, then you don't need to plug the ethernet in. if you want to use ethernet, you need to plug an ethernet cable from you PC upstairs to your router downstairsInternet??????
So you have a wireless router. Ok, so does the computer your sister gave you have a wireless card to be able to see the wireless router?? Not being a smart a**, but that would not entail wires.
On the other hand, to connect with a wire directly to the router, you would need an rj45 cable (look like a wider phone cable). And since you are on 2 different floors, it would need to be long.
Right click the network places and choose properties, See what it says there. If it says local are connection and also wireless connection, then you have both. Maybe the local area connection is trying to go. Right click it and choose disable. and make sure the wireless is enabled.Internet??????
your wireless router needs to have an open ethernet port, the other computer will have the ethernet cable from its ethernet port to the router, otherwise get a wireless antenna for the older computer, and you can connect wirelessly through the router instead of being hardwired.
