it really doesn't matter, the internet loads things way slower than any modern computer. I haven't been keeping up on the very latest processors, but you don't need one of the very latest processors to get the most out of the web. The way it used to be (and quite probably still is) is that you could get more bang for your buck out of an AMD processor than an Intel, but they both have discount lines (AMD Sempron, Intel Celeron) Don't get the latest and greatest processor if you're not playing the latest and greatest games (or editing HD video or rendering 3d animation).What is the best processor for internet use on a laptop?
If you are upgrading your old computers then go to the manufactures website and look up your model and see which proccessors it will be able to accept

For "Basic" games and Internet...anything that sells for around $1000+ in full will be more then sufficient (hell can get a sub $500 computer to do Basic games and Net). I recommend not buying from a local retail store though and making sure it has a separate video card not integrated video so that you can upgrade that later.
