How can I make my wireless internet faster?

I have a lynksis router. Its okay but the internet is not very fast and it often loses its connection often.

My room is in the basement so running a internet cable (which is what I would prefer) isnt an option.

Any hints to help me get a better connection, faster download speed, and overall a more reliable network connection?How can I make my wireless internet faster?
How far away are your room from the wireless router? If it is far that is why you are having a slow connection. I am sure you have a weak signal. What you can do is the go into the router and increase the signal strength strong enough to reach you but not strong enough to get out of the house. Remember if the signal have to go through a brick wall it will weaken the signal. Good luck.
First, move your Linksys away from any large metal objects, like an old refrigerator or heating ducts.



Try changing the wireless "channel" on your Linksys. If you have a 2.4Ghz cordless telephone in the house you need to test that against each wireless channel. First change to the new channel (possibly including rebooting your router), verify that your internet still works, then pick up the cordless phone until you hear a dial tone, then try to browse the web with the phone held next to your computer's wireless adapter. Continue to change the channel and test with the phone until you find a channel that works while you are using the phone.



You will have the same problem with interference even if you buy a new wireless router. Change the channels first to make sure before you buy anything new.

well since your in your basement you are probably getting alot of interference with the concrete and your surroundings.



What kinda wireless router do you have??

Is it a wireless G??



I would suggest going with one of the new wireless N routers, they have longer range and a faster speed. But you will also need to upgrade the wireless card in your computer to take advantage of it.
