I'm doing homework and there are a lot questions where I am supposed to calculate the standard enthalpy of formation using the formula "the sum of the products' enthalpy of formation - the sum of the reactants' enthalpy of formation" My problem is the chart I was given with enthalpies of formations of different substances is missing most of the substances I'm supposed to answer questions about.
Is there a way to solve these questions without knowing the specific enthalpies of formation of different substances? Or a way to figure out what the enthalpies are without being told in a chart?
I could look up what they are online, but I won't have the internet on a test. Thanks :)Is there a way to solve enthalpy problems without the enthalpy of formation values?
well the appendix of selected thermodynamic data AKA your chart with all the enthalpy of formation values mostly should be on the chart. However, there are some that arn't there. I am an AP Chem student and some of the enthalpy values weren't on my thermodynamic data sheet either. I just looked them up online. On the test however, the teacher either lets you use the data list of enthalpy values, or she'll give the needed enthalpy values within the problem. There is no other way to solve for enthalpy of formation problems other than sum ofDelta H products - sum of Delta H reactants.
Hope this help! Good luck on the Test!
